Role Purpose
Our client is seeking a Business Development Consultant who will be responsible for driving sustainable revenue growth through the acquisition of new commercial clients, the development of strategic partnerships, the expansion of existing accounts, and the achievement of funded learner recruitment targets. This role involves selling and promoting courses and qualifications in the construction sector.
The role is primarily sales-focused, with accountability for identifying opportunities, generating leads, securing contracts, growing market share, and maximising profitability across commercial training, funded provision, apprenticeships, workforce development programmes, and bespoke employer solutions.
The postholder will act as a key ambassador for the organisation, building strong employer relationships, creating new business opportunities, and contributing directly to the achievement of the company's strategic growth objectives
Role Requirements
Essential
- Minimum 3 years' successful B2B sales or business development experience.
- Proven track record of achieving and exceeding revenue targets. Targets to be discussed.
- Experience in generating new business through proactive prospecting and relationship development.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other essential business support tools.
- Experience in managing a sales pipeline and CRM system.
- Excellent presentation, influencing and closing skills.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively.
Core Responsibilities
Commercial Sales & Revenue Generation
- Identify, prospect and secure new commercial business opportunities through proactive sales activity, including cold calling, networking, referrals, digital outreach and client visits.
- Develop and implement business development strategies that deliver sustainable revenue growth and increased market share.
- Achieve and exceed agreed monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets.
- Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline by consistently generating leads and managing opportunities.
- Prepare, present and negotiate commercial proposals, quotations and contracts.
- Conduct training needs analyses with employers and design bespoke workforce development solutions.
- Identify opportunities to upsell and cross-sell services across the full company portfolio.
- Drive repeat business and long-term contractual relationships with employers and stakeholders.
Client Relationship Management
- Develop strong relationships with decision-makers, HR leaders, operational managers and procurement teams.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients by understanding organisational challenges and recommending effective training solutions.
- Deliver exceptional customer experience throughout the sales cycle.
- Conduct regular account review meetings with key clients to identify growth opportunities.
Strategic Business Development
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity and emerging funding opportunities.
- Develop strategic partnerships with employers, referral agencies, local authorities and sector bodies.
- Represent the organisation at industry events, conferences and networking opportunities.
- Support the development of new products and services based on market demand.
Funded Provision Development
- Generate employer engagement and learner recruitment opportunities across funded programmes.
- Support achievement of funded learner targets in line with contractual obligations.
- Ensure compliance with funding rules and eligibility requirements.
- Work collaboratively with operational teams to ensure smooth learner transitions from sale to delivery.
Sales Reporting & CRM Management
- Maintain accurate records of all business development activity within CRM systems.
- Produce weekly pipeline reports and monthly performance forecasts.
- Analyse sales performance data and recommend improvement strategies.
- Present performance updates and business opportunities to the Senior Leadership Team.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role, as reasonably required to support the needs of the business.
